Julian Thomas
Thomas received his PhD at Sheffield in 1986 and is currently the Chair of Archaeology at the University of Manchester. His interests are widespread and include Material Culture, its theory and application; the Neolithic/Bronze Age of Britain and Europe; philosophy of archaeology; monumentality; architecture and landscape; and Archaeology and modernity. Thomas’ main concern lies in addressing the way prehistoric societies are understood within a contemporary context. Thus, in addition to his interests mentioned above, Thomas studies the use of hermeneutic, phenomenological, feminist and post-structuralist philosophies in archaeology.
