Lauren O'Brien was born and raised in Southern California. She did her undergrad at Tulane University in New Olreans. In 2007 she graduated with her Bachelor of the Art's degree in Anthropology, and a minor in English. Upon graduating she moved to South Korea where she taught English and Kindergarten in Seoul. In August of 2008 she moved back to the United States and began working towards her Ph.D. in archaeology at Southern Methodist University.
She is interested in looking at prehistoric ceramics in the Southwestern United States. She has excavated Roman military camps in Spain and historical sites in Taos, New Mexico through SMU.
